BRUSSELS: European Council chief Charles Michel called a video-summit of European Union (EU) leaders for next week to discuss the Israel-Palestine war, as the conflict entered its second week Saturday.
Charles Michel said in a statement that it is of utmost importance that the European Council, in line with the Treaties and its values, sets a common position and take a clear and unified action that reflects the complexity of the current situation, AFP reported.
He said that Israel has the right to defend itself in full compliance with international law, especially international humanitarian law.

Michel further said that the unfolding tragic scenes in the Gaza resulting from the siege and the lack of basic needs combined with the destruction brought by massive shelling, are raising alarm bells in the global community.
