ISLAMABAD: The European Union (EU) has announced an emergency humanitarian fund for Pakistan to assist those affected by the incident in Jaranwala town in Punjab province. The announcement was made through the European Union Pakistan’s official account on X.

The European Union further expressed its solidarity with the vulnerable communities in Pakistan and emphasized its commitment to their well-being.
EU Ambassador Meets Pakistan’s Foreign Minister
A day earlier, the European Union Ambassador to Pakistan, Riina Kionka, held a meeting with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Jalil Abbas Jilani, in Islamabad. The discussions centered around the relationship between Pakistan and the European Union, as well as the progress achieved through various institutional mechanisms.
During the meeting, both parties agreed that the Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) is a mutually advantageous arrangement. They also reiterated their dedication to strengthening collaboration across all areas of shared interest.
Riina Kionka underscored the significance of the GSP+ status, which entails trade concessions in exchange for the implementation of 27 international conventions. She expressed optimism about the ongoing positive collaboration between Pakistan and the European Union.

It is pertinent to mention here that a violent mob have attacked at least 17 churches and 84 houses belonged to the Christian community in Punjab province’s Jaranwala town over alleged blasphemy accusations.
