ISLAMABAD: Ethiopia and Pakistan have reached an agreement to establish a Joint Working Group (JWG) aimed at facilitating and coordinating educational cooperation between the two countries. The decision to create the JWG for education collaboration was a focal point during a meeting between Jemal Beker Abdula, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and Madad Ali Sindhi, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training.
During the meeting, they discussed various areas of mutual interest, with a particular focus on bilateral cooperation within the education sector, especially in the domains of higher education and vocational training. During the meeting, Minister Madad Ali Sindhi conveyed that the establishment of a Joint Working Group would lay the groundwork for the formalization of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.
Madad Ali Sindhi emphasized the significance of knowledge and expertise exchange, particularly in the field of vocational and technical training. He underscored the substantial benefits that both nations could gain from sharing their experiences. Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula warmly welcomed the proposal for the Joint Working Group and underscored the importance of arranging delegations of experts to promote educational cooperation.
He expressed Ethiopia’s strong commitment to enhancing bilateral educational collaboration between the two nations and pledged to exert every effort in this regard.
Ambassador Abdula also made a request to the minister to consider providing scholarships to Ethiopian students in Pakistan’s public sector universities. He highlighted the deep connection between the people of Ethiopia and Pakistan, mentioning the support of Ethiopian doctors who had received their education from Pakistani universities during the 2022 floods in Pakistan. They had expressed their willingness to assist their Pakistani counterparts in those challenging times.

Furthermore, the Ambassador extended an invitation to the minister to visit Ethiopia, a land of historical significance and the birthplace of Hazrat Bilal Habashi and King Nejashi.
The Federal Minister expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador and emphasized the cordial and friendly relations between the two nations, rooted in shared history and values, including justice, peace, and global development on an equitable basis.
