ISLAMABAD: The Ethiopian Embassy in Pakistan announced on Monday that the House of the Peoples Representatives of FDRE has unanimously endorsed the bilateral trade agreement signed by the two countries on February 14, 2023, aiming to enhance their trade ties.
The Standing Committee of the House on Trade and Tourism submitted the trade agreement for approval during the 8th regular meeting of the 3rd year of the House of the Peoples Representatives.
This bilateral trade agreement is strategically designed to elevate trade cooperation, fostering stronger economic and commercial relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
Jemal Beker Abdula, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, hailed the unanimous approval as a significant breakthrough in the bilateral relations between the two countries. He said that the landmark agreement would provide a substantial boost to the current bilateral trade, which stands at over 80 million USD.
Ethiopia’s Ambassador Praises Approval of Trade Agreement
The Ambassador highlighted that the agreement sets the stage for the establishment of a joint action committee on trade and the creation of robust institutional linkages between Ethiopia and Pakistan. He extended congratulations to the business communities of both countries for this important milestone.
Expressing optimism, he stated that the upcoming year would mark a new chapter in bilateral trade history, fostering increased business and trade activities. The Ambassador recalled key events such as the visit of over 70 businessmen and investors to Ethiopia in March and the trip of over 50 Ethiopian businessmen to Pakistan in May of the current year.
These positive developments, coupled with the commencement of Ethiopian Airlines operations, create a favorable environment for the flourishing and thriving of Ethiopia-Pakistan bilateral relations amidst the evolving global dynamics, noted the Ambassador.
