ISLAMABAD: Javed Khattak, CEO Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC), Javed Khattak has said on Thursday that the establishment of Pak-Afghan Zone near Afghanistan border in the suburbs of Peshawar district is in progress and section four has been enforced for acquiring of the land.
He said that the Economic Zone will be set up with the objective of tapping the potential of trade and commerce opportunities and to facilitate businessmen of both the neighboring countries.
He further said that a land of 508 acres will be established within the neighborhood of Hayatabad Industrial Estate at the foothills of Shalman mountains. In Pak-Afghan Economic Zone, Afghan traders would be provided with the opportunity of doing business through partnership with Pakistani businessmen.
He added that a separate economic zone is expected to give incentive to Pak-Afghan business by consolidation supply chain of both the raw material and finished goods between the two neighboring countries.
He further added that special cold storages will also be established to protect perishable goods from getting rotten due to closure of Torkham border post.
Javed Khattak informed that NESPAK was working over feasibility of the Pak-Afghan economic zone and the work on infrastructure development would soon begin after acquiring of the land.

Facilitating Pak-Afghan economic zone
He added that to facilitate Pak-Afghan Economic Zone, the new Expressway will be utilized for transportation/carriage of goods from the main GT (Grand Trunk) road and Motorway industrial estate to avoid entry of goods laden trucks within the premises of city area of Peshawar district, he continued.
He further said that KPEZDMC is striving with the mission of economic prosperity through industrialization and within three years has succeeded in launching of nine new Economic Zones in the province along with two Special Economic Zones including Rashakai and Hattar.
Khattak further added that around 298 new industrial units were developed in the province during the last three years in these newly established economic zones and SEZs. Meanwhile, the facilitation services provided by KPEZDMC, has increased the number of operational enterprises to 1166 units, raising the employment figures to 100,530 with around 10 percent female participation.
