ANTALYA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban held talks on various topics, including bilateral relations and Israel’s actions against Palestinians, during a meeting at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, local media reported on Saturday.
They also discussed the Ukraine conflict, Türkiye-EU relations, and NATO’s expansion plans during the meeting. Erdogan emphasized the responsibility of all nations in preventing what he described as Israeli attempts at genocide in Gaza, highlighting the loss of over 30,000 Palestinian lives, extensive destruction, and displacement. He urged the global community not to overlook the suffering of innocent Palestinians. Erdogan underscored the deepening ties between Türkiye and Hungary across the economy, defence industry, energy, and transportation sectors.
Orban praised Türkiye’s crucial role in managing the migration issue in Europe, commending Erdogan’s active involvement in addressing this challenge. He also highlighted unfulfilled promises from Brussels to Ankara, cautioning that Europe would face significant hurdles without Türkiye’s strong leadership.
In a separate statement, Orban expressed gratitude for meeting President Erdogan at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, expressing eagerness to further strengthen their strategic partnership in trade, energy, and the defence industry.
Furthermore, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also held a meeting with his US counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, in Antalya during the forum. Mirzoyan was attending the event as part of his visit to Türkiye. However, the Foreign Ministry did not provide additional details regarding the Fidan-Mirzoyan meeting.
