ISTANBUL: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday announced the cancellation of his planned visit to Israel, condemning Israel’s “inhumane” war against Gaza residents. Erdogan expressed his strong disapproval of Israel’s actions and said that Hamas is “liberators” fighting for their land.
The ongoing Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip have led to a devastating toll. According to the Gaza health ministry, over 6,500 innocent Palestinians have been martyred in the Israeli bombardments, the majority of whom were civilians, as Israel continued its bombardment of the territory.
Erdogan Condemns Israeli Attacks Against Civilians
Erdogan had condemned Israeli attacks against civilians and urged Israel to exercise restraint.
Accusing the United Nations Security Council, particularly its permanent members, of favoring the “Israeli regime,” Erdogan called for an immediate ceasefire and urged Israel to step back and engage in direct or indirect negotiations to secure the release of hostages.
Erdogan is expected to participate in a massive rally in Istanbul on Saturday, where he will defend Palestinian rights, emphasizing Turkey’s strong stance against the ongoing conflict and advocating for peace in the region.
