DOHA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of jeopardizing the entire region’s future for his political gains, emphasizing that the killing of Palestinian women and children constitutes a war crime that demands accountability, Al Jazeera reported.
Speaking at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit in Doha, Erdogan expressed his hope for a permanent ceasefire and advocated for the establishment of an independent Palestinian sovereign state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Erdogan declared that Turkey is prepared to act as a guarantor state in these efforts.
Erdogan Calls for Accountability of Israel
“Netanyahu is gambling with the entire region’s future for his own political calculations. The killing of women and children is a war crime, and Israel must be penalized,” Erdogan stated, reflecting the growing international condemnation of Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the situation in Gaza is described as deteriorating rapidly, with a World Health Organization (WHO) official reporting that Israeli bombing has intensified in the southern part of the enclave, particularly around the cities of Khan Younis and Rafah, according to Reuters.
Richard Peeperkorn, WHO representative on the occupied Palestinian territory, expressed grave concern, stating, “The situation is getting worse by the hour. There is intensified Israeli bombing going on all around, including here in the southern areas, Khan Younis, and even in Rafah.”
