Emir of Qatar, German President for Resuming Regional Peace Process

DOHA: In a meeting between Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, both leaders stressed the importance of restarting the comprehensive peace process in the Middle East.

The primary objective of this process is to facilitate the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, aligning with international legitimacy resolutions. The discussions also touched upon bilateral cooperation between Qatar and Germany, particularly in the areas of investment and energy.

Emir Sheikh Tamim shared details of the extensive talks through his official social media account, emphasizing the ongoing collaboration between the two nations and the need for sustained efforts in achieving regional stability. The leaders paid special attention to the recent developments in Gaza, recognizing the significance of diplomatic initiatives to address the longstanding challenges in the Middle East.

President Steinmeier’s visit to Qatar followed an official three-day visit to Muscat, Oman, where he engaged in discussions with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. The talks in both Qatar and Oman focused on reinforcing bilateral ties and exploring opportunities for cooperation across various sectors.

In his statement, the Omani Foreign Minister, Badr al-Busaidi, highlighted the potential for deepening and expanding the partnership between Germany and Oman, particularly in the fields of energy and tourism. The comprehensive discussions on regional and international developments aimed to strengthen diplomatic relations and foster mutual understanding.

During their stay in Oman, President Steinmeier and his wife visited the Oman Across Ages Museum in the Wilayat of Manah in the al-Dakhiliyah Governorate. The museum’s design, inspired by the rugged topography of the al-Hajar Mountains, showcases Oman’s rich history through interactive displays, antiques, and manuscripts. The visit also included a tour of the Nizwa Fort, offering insights into Oman’s historical significance.

The German President expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended during the visit and conveyed his appreciation for learning about the Sultanate of Oman’s history. The diplomatic engagements between Qatar, Germany, and Oman reflect a collective commitment to regional stability and the pursuit of lasting solutions to complex geopolitical challenges.
