MAKKAH: A dedicated medical team at Saudi Arabia’s Hira General Hospital, part of the Makkah Health Cluster, has performed emergency surgery to save an Afghan Hajj pilgrim who was experiencing severe abdominal pain due to a duodenal perforation.
This rapid intervention, conducted under the urgent care system, successfully closed the perforation and removed an abdominal abscess, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Sunday.
The health cluster reported that the patient was admitted to the emergency department in critical condition. Prompt medical examinations and imaging were conducted, followed by an exploratory abdominal surgery, which revealed a perforation in the duodenum along with an abscess responsible for the severe pain.
The medical team carried out a successful surgical procedure, after which the patient received the required treatments. Upon completing his treatment plan, doctors cleared him for discharge. The patient has since recovered and is now able to resume and complete his Hajj rituals.
