WASHINGTON, USA: The US Secret Service confirmed it was aware of a social media post by billionaire Elon Musk on X (formerly Twitter) that raised concerns about potential violence toward President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Musk, owner of X, made the post following the arrest of a man suspected of planning to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
In the post, Musk mused, “And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala,” which was met with swift backlash from users across the political spectrum. Critics feared Musk’s comment, shared with nearly 200 million followers, could incite violence. Although he deleted the post, the Secret Service took note of it, stating that they investigate all potential threats but did not elaborate on further actions.

Musk later suggested he was joking, acknowledging that humor can be misunderstood in text. The White House condemned his post, calling it irresponsible and emphasizing that violence should never be encouraged, even in jest. Musk’s controversial comment added to ongoing discussions about the influence and responsibility of prominent figures on social media.
