ISLAMABAD/FLORIDA: Twitter Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk launched a poll on the microblogging platform asking users if he should step down as head of the social media company.

Musk said in one of his tweets that he would abide by the poll results. The poll is scheduled to close around early on Monday.

Farewell to Elon Musk as Twitter CEO

Musk did not give a definite date on when he would step down as the CEO of Twitter if users and consumers asked him to do so.

In a Twitter user’s comment on a possible change in the CEO, Musk said, “There is no successor”.

Last month, Musk told a Delaware court that he would reduce his time on the platform and soon find a new person to run the company.

The poll comes after Twitter updated its policy prohibiting accounts created solely for promoting other social media companies and content that contained links or usernames for rival platforms.

Minutes before the poll, Elon Musk apologized and tweeted that he was going forward and there would be a vote for significant policy changes.

A few hours later, Twitter started a poll asking consumers if Twitter should have a policy preventing accounts of other social media platforms.

The policy update is likely to impact content from social media platforms such as Facebook and its sister organisation Instagram, Mastodon, Tribel, Truth Social, Post and Nostr while allowing cross-content posting, Twitter support said in a tweet.

The policy change follows other dramatic actions at Twitter since Musk bought the social media network. Musk fired top management and laid off about half of its workforce while seesawing how much to charge for the subscription service Twitter Blue.
