NEW YORK: Hollywood actor Elizabeth Olsen recently voiced her criticism of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for its restrictive contracts, citing the negative impact they had on her career opportunities.
Olsen, who made her debut as the Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff in the film ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ revealed her discontent with the franchise’s contractual policies during a podcast.
The renowned actor, who is also the sister of celebrity twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, expressed her disapproval of the MCU’s approach, suggesting that the franchise should sign actors for individual films.
According to Olsen, such a practice would enable actors to evaluate their enjoyment of playing specific characters and grant them greater creative control.
Elizabeth Olsen Performed in Several MCU Films
Since her debut in ‘The Winter Soldier,’ Olsen has appeared in several MCU films, including ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ and ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’
She has also portrayed the character in web shows such as ‘WandaVision,’ ‘Marvel Studios: Assembled,’ and ‘What If…?’
Olsen expressed frustration, citing an instance where she was unable to work on the film ‘The Lobster’ due to her contractual obligations with the MCU.
“I had this job security, but I was losing these pieces that I felt were more part of my being,” she explained, emphasizing that distancing herself from those opportunities resulted in fewer considerations for such roles.
Currently, the 34-year-old actress can be seen in the web show ‘Love & Death.’ The series explores the biography of Candy Montgomery, who faced accusations of murdering her lover, Betty Gore.
