The Ministry of Energy on Friday claimed that the electricity transmission system has been fixed and power supply restored to most parts of the country after a major power breakdown on Thursday, which left southern parts of the country without lights for over 14 hours.
In a statement, the Ministry of Energy said that the fault in two 500 kilowatts lines in the south of Karachi had been resolved after 12-hour-long power outages.
“Electricity supply is being increased from alternative power plants, which will return to normal by Friday morning,” it added.
Earlier, Minister for Power Khurram Dastgir Khan said that power would be restored throughout the country by 8 pm on Thursday. However, power outages were reported in southern parts of the country including Karachi till Friday morning.
Meanwhile, the K-Electric said that power has been restored in most parts of Karachi. It said that temporary load-shedding could be carried out to manage the load on transmission lines, which remained safe after yesterday’s breakdown.
According to K-Electric, power supply to strategic installations including the airport, hospitals, and Karachi Water and Sewerage Board pumping stations has been restored.
It said that the power supply to residential areas is being restored gradually.
