Islamabad: Minister for Energy and Power Division Khurram Dastgir has said that the report on an inquiry into the power breakdown is likely to be released on Monday.
He said that power has completely been restored across the country including in flood-hit areas, where stagnant rainwater could not be pumped out yet despite the passage of over a month
Addressing a press conference in Gujranwala, the minister said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was personally supervising the electricity restoration process.
“A third-party audit of the inquiry report will also be conducted,” the minister said adding that flood-affected electric feeders have also been restored.
He said that the government wants to produce more and cheap electricity from Thar coalfields to save dollars on imports.
He said that the latest addition of 330 megawatts from Thar coal plant would take the total production from coal to 1,320MW in December.
The minister said that another plant in Thar would start producing 1,320MW before the start of next summer, adding a total of 2,640 extra electricity from domestic coal to the national grid.
According to Dastgir, coal costs $400 per ton in the international market, while Thar coal costs approximately $40 per ton. He said that the maximum operation of coal-fired power facilities will help in bringing down electricity price.
