KARACHI: The Polling process for general elections 2024 started on Thursday across Sindh, including Karachi. Voting commenced at 8 am and will continue uninterrupted until 5 pm. 26.994 million registered voters including 14.4612 million male and 12.382 million female voters are taking part in the elections. They will exercise their democratic right to elect representatives for 61 general seats of the national assembly and 130 general seats of the provincial assembly.
A total of 19,006 polling stations, equipped with 65,005 polling booths, have been established across Sindh to facilitate voters. In Karachi alone, with over 9.2 million registered voters, constituents will elect candidates for 22 general seats of the national assembly and 47 general seats of the provincial assembly.
The distribution of voters in Karachi’s districts is as follows: Central District (2,144,926), District East (1,687,810), District Korangi (1,512,026), District South (1,270,564), District West (954,828), District Keamari (891,214), and District Malir (824,873).
A substantial pool of 1,995 candidates are vying for positions in the metropolis. Despite this significant electoral activity, only 128 out of 5,342 polling stations in Karachi have been declared normal, underlining the thorough security measures in place to ensure a free and fair electoral process throughout the province. –APP
