ISLAMABAD: Islamabad and Rawalpindi are bustling with Eid-ul-Fitr shoppers despite skyrocketing inflation. The prices of clothes, shoes, and other items have increased significantly, causing many customers to limit their purchases.
Earlier, customers would buy three to four outfits for Eid, but this year, they are settling for just one outfit due to the high prices. Women are in the majority and are purchasing a range of items for the festive occasion.
The Eid shopping season typically brings a significant boost to the retail industry, but this year, the trend is different. The shops are seeing high customer footfall, but the sales are not proportionate to the number of customers due to the high prices.
Speaking to some of the shoppers, they expressed their concerns over the inflationary trend. One of the customers said, “I used to buy four outfits for my family, but this year I can only afford one. The prices have gone up so much that it is difficult to manage the expenses.”

Another customer shared her experience of shopping, “I am buying only what is necessary. The prices are too high, and we cannot afford to waste money on unnecessary things.”
Despite the challenges, the shopkeepers are optimistic and hopeful that the sales will pick up as Eid approaches. Many are offering discounts and promotions to attract more customers.
The high inflationary trend has impacted the entire country, and the government is taking steps to address the issue. However, it will take some time for the measures to yield results.
