CAIRO: Campaign managers on Wednesday described Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s decision to run for a third term in office as a response to the call of the Egyptian people across the republic. El-Sisi confirmed his candidacy for the upcoming December elections, with his election team promising a “consensus vision” that involves all political parties, emphasizing it as a continuation of the democratic process.

In his closing speech at a three-day event promoting policies under his rule in the new capital being constructed outside Cairo, El-Sisi expressed his commitment to responding to the call of the Egyptians. He stated, “We are on the cusp of our new republic, which seeks to complete the process of the state’s survival and rebuild it on the foundations of modernity and democracy.”

El-Sisi’s campaign managers announced the preparation of a consensus vision for the next stage, titled “We Will Complete the Dream.” This vision aims to involve all supporting parties and experts from various fields. El-Sisi hopes that the Egyptian people will actively participate in the presidential elections, setting an example for the world. Detailed information about the vision and procedures will be announced shortly, according to a statement from his campaign office.

El-Sisi Resolves to Work for Nation’s Benefit

El-Sisi reiterated his dedication to working for the nation’s benefit, promising that his upcoming term would be an extension of the joint efforts made for the sake of Egypt and its people. Mahmoud Fawzi, the secretary-general of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, has been chosen by El-Sisi to lead his election campaign.

Starting Thursday, the National Elections Authority will begin receiving applications for the 2024 presidential elections for a ten-day period at the authority’s headquarters in central Cairo. The announcement of El-Sisi’s candidacy received support from parties like the Homat Watan (Protectors of the Nation) party, which viewed it as a message of reassurance to continue the country’s development and construction process initiated during his tenure.

Additionally, the pro-government Mostaqbal Watan (Nation’s Future) party renewed its pledge to support El-Sisi, echoing the sentiment of several other parties that extended their support to the president’s candidacy in August.
