CAIRO: Egypt has rejected allegations from Sudan’s paramilitary chief Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, at war with the military since April last year, that its military has been involved in the conflict in African country.
The war between the regular military, led by army chief Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Dagalo’s Rapid Support Forces has killed tens of thousands and caused the world’s largest displacement crisis.
In a video uploaded online Wednesday, Dagalo has accused Egypt’s air force of carrying out attacks targeting his forces near Jebel Moya, a key region south of Khartoum. He claimed that Egypt is fighting them,” alleging it of being one of six nations of interfering in the war, including Iran. In a statement issued Wednesday, Egypt’s ministry of foreign affairs rejected Dagalo’s claim.
Egypt “rejects the allegations… about the participation of the Egyptian air force in the battles taking place in Sudan,” the statement said.
Both the military and the RSF have been accused of repeated atrocities in the ongoing war, including targeting civilian population, the indiscriminate shelling of residential areas and looting or blocking assistance.
The RSF has also been accused of crimes against systematic sexual violence, humanity, and ethnic cleansing.
