CAIRO: Foreign Minister of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, have expressed their readiness to work together to achieve a breakthrough to end crisis in the Gaza Strip.
Shoukry and Borrell met on the sidelines of the 60th Munich Security Conference on Sunday.
The two leaders discussed the latest developments in Gaza and the security and humanitarian situations in the besieged enclave.
Shoukry and Borrell exchanged their evaluations and the results of contacts with various regional and international parties, with an aim to break the deadlock in the region.
They also discussed a number of initiatives taken to end the crisis by achieving an immediate ceasefire and exchange of detainees, as well as boosting the delivery of humanitarian aid in Gaza.

The two sides shared their concerns about the current Gaza situation.
Shoukry stressed the need for global actors to put pressure on Israel to stop attacks on Gaza, and any attempts to displace the people of the region or damage the cause of Palestine.
They discussed escalation in the Red Sea in connection with the crisis in Gaza.
Shoukry lauded Borrell’s support and his efforts to end war in Gaza, which have been reflected in recent statements about the need for the US to put pressure on Israel to stop hostilities, and to end the delivery of arms to Israel.
Borrell reiterated support for the pivotal role played by Egypt in attempt to end the war and help reduce the consequences of the conflict.
He later wrote on X: “Met today with Egyptian Foreign Minister Shoukry to discuss joint efforts to avert a looming humanitarian disaster in Rafah, and our work toward implementing the two-state solution.”
