GILGIT: A meeting was held at the office of the Ministry of Federal Education to discuss the implementation of the “WeThinkDigital Phase VI” in Gilgit Baltistan on Friday. The Federal Secretary, Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training (MOFEPT), Aamir Ashraf Khawaja presided over the meeting. The project’s partners Meta and Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) were present at the conference, which was held to support the project’s implementation across Gilgit Baltistan 10 districts.
The “WeThinkDigital Program” offers methods for building a world community of responsible digital citizens who are prepared for the digital age. The effort aims to increase digital literacy and safe internet use among children, teachers, adolescents, youth, and citizens aged 13 to 18 (grade 6 to 10) and above by building capacity. The initiative’s main goals are raising awareness of cyberbullying, promoting safe internet usage, assisting young people’s groups in navigating digital environments, and teaching kids about digital citizenship.
Khawaja addressed the event and underlined the critical importance of raising awareness about online fraud and partners’ roles in protecting children from it. Waseem Ajmal Chaudhary, Additional Secretary MOFEPT, also stressed on the importance of necessity of an active partnership and collaboration in order to exploit the Meta platform for the benefit of Pakistani students. In order to ensure the success of this programme, MOFEPT also guaranteed Meta and Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi of its complete assistance.
Yasas Vishuddhi Abeywickrama, Policy Programs Manager for South Asia at Meta, also spoke at this event and stated, “WeThinkDigital program which we launched in the country in 2020 has trained students in schools across the country in Pakistan. We hope to work together to further this work, including making digital literacy content available at scale.”
The Ministry of Federal Education, ITA, and Meta representatives attended the meeting along with Baela Raza Jamil, CEO of ITA.
