ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan will announce the name of the caretaker chief minister of Punjab today after a special meeting to be held to discuss the available options before them.
Four persons have been nominated by the opposition and treasury leaders of the dissolved Punjab Assembly for the selection of the caretaker CM.
The Commission after receiving names for the caretaker chief minister prepared profiles of the nominees. The detailed profiles of the nominees shed light on their performance in their respective fields and qualification. Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan will present the profiles of the nominees in a special meeting of the ECP today (Sunday) after which the Election Commission of Pakistan would announce the name of the caretaker chief minister.
The matter to pick the caretaker chief minister Punjab came to the ECP after a parliamentary committee failed to build consensus on person for the CM slot. The parliamentary committee constituted by the Punjab Assembly speaker met on Friday afternoon, however, they failed to reach a consensus on a name.
Nominees for caretaker CM
The treasury had proposed the names of Naveed Akram Cheema and Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera while the opposition had nominated Ahad Khan Cheema and Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi for the slot of caretaker chief minister Punjab.
The chief election commissioner summoned an important meeting of the ECP today evening. Sikandar Sultan Raja summoned the meeting at 7pm at ECP office today to give approval to a name for caretaker chief minister of Punjab. The ECP has got time to announce the caretaker CM for Punjab province till 10:30pm today.
