ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday announced starting the process of redrawing the constituencies for elections, a crucial step in the run-up to the upcoming general elections.

In the initial phase, the ECP will form constituency committees. These committees will be responsible for constituencies covering the federal capital as well as all provinces across the country. Starting Tuesday, these committees will begin collecting basic data, including maps and population statistics.

In addition, a four-day training programme for the Commission is scheduled to begin on September 1. The preliminary delineation of electoral districts will be taking place from September 8 to October 7 when the basic boundaries of each electoral district will be drawn.

Initial details of these constituencies will be released on October 9 to allow citizens and stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the proposed changes.

Individuals with concerns or recommendations about constituencies will have the opportunity to submit objections or suggestions from October 10th to November 8th.

The Commission has earmarked a period from October 10 to December 9 for the review and resolution of objections, during which the ECP will conduct hearings and make decisions.

However, the final notification of the constituencies is expected to be issued on December 14.
