ISLAMABAD: The Sindh Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police have been asked to recommend transfers or postings for important members of the provincial administration as part of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) efforts to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
During a meeting presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, the significance of upholding transparency and impartiality in elections was underscored as a prime responsibility of the top officials in the Sindh government.
Transfers and appointments of key officials are required as a first step in order to secure free and fair elections. The appointment of district returning officers, returning officers, assistant returning officers, and monitoring teams will then be a part of the process, it was emphasized further in the meeting.
The Chief Secretary of Sindh and the IGP were promised complete protection and assistance in their positions by the Election Commission.
Earlier in the meeting, the Chief Secretary and IGP both described how prepared they were for the impending general elections. They pledged to give the Election Commission their full cooperation during the voting process.
In a separate session, the Balochistan Chief Secretary, IGP, and Provincial Election Commissioner briefed the Election Commission about election preparations.
ECP Receives Proposals for Key Postings in Balochistan
The Election Commission had received recommendations for posting and transferring commissioners, deputy commissioners, and extra deputy commissioners, according to the Balochistan Chief Secretary. In order to ensure election process openness, these suggestions were made taking into account performance, merit, and ECP norms.
He also confirmed that the repair work for flood-affected buildings of proposed polling stations had been completed.
The IGP of Balochistan provided an overview of the current law and order situation in the province along with the strategy for handling the circumstances during the upcoming election.
Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja affirmed the Election Commission’s commitment to conducting all stages of the election peacefully and fairly in accordance with the law and the Constitution, reaffirming the commission’s status as an impartial entity.
