ECP Releases Final Candidates List for Senate Elections

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday released the final list of candidates for Senate elections scheduled for April 2.

According to the electoral watchdog, 18 senators out of 48 seats, have been elected unopposed from Balochistan and Punjab provinces. The election on remaining 30 seats will be held on April 02 for which 59 candidates are vying. 

According to the electoral body, in Punjab province, seven candidates have been elected unopposed for general seats, with elections set for two women and two technocrats from the province.

In Balochistan, all 11 candidates secured seats unopposed, according to the electoral watchdog.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Assembly will elect a total of 12 senators, with elections scheduled for seven general seats, two women, two technocrats, and one for a minority.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 11 senate seats will be contested, including one general and one technocrat seat from the federal capital. 

The ECP had previously issued a comprehensive code of conduct for parties and candidates participating in the Senate elections, emphasizing transparency, integrity, and fairness in the electoral process. 

The code prohibits parties and candidates from engaging in corrupt or illegal activities and from using public office holders to influence election outcomes, aiming to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
