ECP Rejects Commissioner Rawalpindi’s Allegations About Irregularities

RAWALPINDI: The Election Commission of Pakistan has strongly rejected the allegations of Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatta regarding polls irregularities in Rawalpindi division, a statement said on Saturday.

Earlier, Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatta tendered resignation from his post and claimed that electoral irregularities occurred during Feb 08 polls in Rawalpindi division. Speaking in a press conference in Rawalpindi, he tendered his resignation, saying that he did injustice to the people of Rawalpindi Division.

The press release of the ECP said that no official of the ECP had issued directives to the Commissioner Rawalpindi for alleged changes in the results of elections in Rawalpindi division.

The Election Commission of Pakistan announced the complete results of the Feb 8 polls in Pakistan and the now political parties are holding political consultation to form the new government. PML-N nominated former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as its candidate for the slot of PM while PTI named Omar Ayub as candidate for PM position.

Similarly, consultations are underway between the political parties to form government in all provinces of the country.
