ECP Nominates Presiding Officers for President Election

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has appointed presiding officers for the presidential elections to be held in Parliament and four provincial assemblies.

According to the ECP, the Islamabad Chief Justice (IHC) has been appointed as the presiding officer in the Senate and the National Assembly. ECP member Nisar Durrani has been appointed presiding officer in the Punjab Assembly.

Similarly, Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court has been appointed presiding officer for the Sindh Assembly. The Chief Justices of Peshawar High Court (PHC) and Balochistan High Court (BHC) would be the presiding officers for their respective provincial assemblies.

The presiding officers will receive nomination papers from the presidential election candidates. They will also monitor the presidential election.

Meanwhile, the ECP has started preparations for the election of the presidential slot and has completed staff training.

Sources privy to the development said that a Returning Officer will be appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

Earlier on February 22, the ECP scheduled the March 2024 senate and presidential elections.

According to the details, polls for the Senate elections will be held in the first or second week of March and then after the presidential elections. According to the proposed schedule for the Senate elections, the elections should be held by March 10.

ECP sources said the schedule for Senate elections is likely to be released soon. The presidential election schedule will be released after approval by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) as well as the ECP members.
