ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said on Thursday that it was trying its best to ensure transparency and credibility in upcoming general elections where they had invited national and international observers to observe the electoral process.

Talking to the state-run news channel, ECP spokesperson Haroon Shinwari said that national and international observance will provide a neutral feedback about the electoral process, adding, that the electoral watchdog accorded approval to the code of conduct for foreign observers and also allowed to publish it as soon as possible.

He said that the voter lists across the country woul be frozen on 25 October, formally stopping the process of registration, correctness and transfer of voters.

Shinwari said that all of the registered voters will cast votes in polls, adding, that there are only six days left for the registration and correctness of the voters’ data.

Replying to a query, he said the Elections Act 2017 empowers ECP to invite local or foreign observers to monitor the polls, adding, that under section 238 of the act, they can observe the electoral process.
