ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday dismissed Sindh Government’s decision to delay local government (LG) elections and ruled that the second phase of LG polls in Sindh will be held on January 15.
The electoral body took the decision in a meeting chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in which the notification by the provincial government was discussed.
ECP also rejected MQM plea to postpone polls
The Sindh government on Thursday night announced to put off LG polls in the province citing its coalition party Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) reservations over the delimitations of the constituencies. The ECP on Monday also rejected the application filed by MQM to postpone the LG polls.
