ISLAMABAD: In preparation for the upcoming general elections 2024, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed the printing of 260 million ballot papers for all constituencies across the country.

The ECP spokesman said that National Assembly ballots are distinguished by green paper, while Provincial Assembly ballots are printed on white paper. He said that with the exception of 31 districts, the distribution of printed ballot papers has been finalized nationwide.

The printing process, started on January 14, concluded on February 3, meeting the necessary timelines for the upcoming elections. Following a directive from the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the ECP undertook a reprinting of ballot papers for 11 National Assembly and five Provincial Assembly constituencies.

ECP officials shared that this time, a total of 260 million ballot papers were printed, reflecting an increase of 54.74% in candidates compared to the 2018 general elections. Despite a significant surge in demand for special paper, effective management strategies resulted in a reduction from 2400 tonnes to 2177 tonnes.

The distribution of printed ballot papers includes various formats, such as 5% single-column, 50% double-column, 30% three-column, 11.15% four-column, and 2.4% five-column, gearing up for the scheduled polls on February 8.

Political parties and independent candidates are actively engaged in campaign activities, and the election campaigning is scheduled to conclude on February 6 at 12 pm.
