Earthquake Strikes Several Indonesian Regions

ACEH, Indonesia: The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported a series of earthquakes in different regions of Indonesia on September 28, 2023.

Aceh Earthquake (5.6 Magnitude): At 00:47 a.m. WIB, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck Aceh. The epicenter was located 401 kilometers southwest of Sinabang, Aceh, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The quake registered at an II-III MMI intensity scale in Banda Aceh, similar to the sensation felt when a truck passes by.

Central Java Earthquake (2.6 Magnitude): Another earthquake occurred at 01:19 a.m. WIB in Kendal, Central Java. This earthquake was shallow, with a depth of 7 kilometers, and had a magnitude of 2.6. It was felt at an II MMI intensity scale in Kendal, causing slight shaking of light-hanging objects.

Banten Earthquake (2.6 Magnitude): At 01:58 a.m., a 2.6-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Banten. Preliminary data indicated that the epicenter was situated 33 kilometers southwest of Bayah, Banten, at a depth of 36 kilometers.

These seismic events serve as a reminder of Indonesia’s susceptibility to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire. The BMKG continues to monitor and provide updates on seismic activity to ensure public safety and preparedness.
