ISLAMABAD/EINDHOVEN: Dutch football club PSV Eindhoven has banned a fan from their Philips Stadium for 40 years for attacking Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic during a Europa League match on February 23.

The 20-year-old man was also given a three-month prison sentence and banned from the area around the stadium for two years.

The pitch invader was already serving a national stadium ban until 2026 imposed by the Dutch football association for previous misconduct and should not have been in attendance at the time.

PSV said the man entered the ground using a ticket bought by a friend. He approached Dmitrovic as the match had entered its closing stages and punched him in the face. But, the former Charlton goalkeeper wrestled the attacker to the ground before stewards led him away.

PSV may face heavy fine amid disciplinary case

The Dutch club can expect a heavy penalty after Uefa opened a disciplinary case against it following the incident. PSV said it would look to recover financial damages from the man.

Sevilla lost the game 2-0, but went through 3-2 on aggregate.

The Spanish six-time Europa League champions will face off against Manchester United in the quarter-finals.
