Dubai Airports to Reach Pre-pandemic Passenger Numbers This Year

ISLAMABAD: Dubai Airports has projected 78 million passengers this year, up from 66 million in 2022, said the management company for the city’s two airports.

The FIFA World Cup and a year-end traffic boost in 2022 ensured last year’s significant high.

According to Dubai airports, the fourth quarter of 2022 was the busiest since 2019, with 19.72 million passengers. December 2022 was also the first month to reach 7 million since January 2020.

The COP28 global climate change conference and the Dubai Air Show are expected to boost this year’s numbers. Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, stated that the company is ready to take on new challenges in 2023, with passengers and sustainability as top priorities.

Dubai aviation has contributed significantly to the UAE’s tourism and economic growth. Dubai International Airport (DXB) serves 229 destinations in 99 countries and is served by 88 airlines.

Regarding DXB passenger volume in 2022, India remained first, with 9.8 million passengers, followed by Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom, with 4.9 million and 4.6 million, respectively. With 3.7 million passengers, Pakistan was also among the top destinations.
