ISLAMABAD: Despite a commitment by the federal minister for health, Abdul Qadir Patel a few days earlier not to increase drug prices, the prices are expected to increase.
As per the official announcement by PPMA, an important meeting between Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) and the Ministry of Health will be held in Karachi at 3 pm today. The decision will be made during the discussion on whether the prices of medicines will increase.
However, official sources in the ministry said that the ministry is expected to increase the medicine prices by 24 percent.

Two days ago, PPMA wrote a letter to the ministry and warned the federal government to increase the prices as they have become entirely unsustainable in manufacturing medicines and ensuring their availability beyond the next seven days.
Pharmaceutical companies have proposed an increase in the prices of medicines. In the proposal, a 38.5 percent increase will be demanded. PPMA has requested to raise the prices of 119 drugs; these include treating blood pressure, TB, diabetes, etc.
