BAGHDAD, Iraq: A drone strike on a vehicle in Baghdad, killed at least one person on Wednesday night, reported western media.
Media reported the news quoting security sources as saying that several loud blasts were also heard in different areas of the Iraqi capital.
One security source confirmed that a local militia commander was killed in the strike.
Another source said three people were killed and that the vehicle hit by the drone was used by Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces.
The drone strike occurred in the city’s eastern Mashtal neighborhood, the sources said.
Iraq has witnessed attacks between armed groups and US forces deployed in the country since the Gaza war began in October 7.
In January, a US drone strike killed a senior militia commander in central Baghdad, which Washington said came in response to drone and rocket attacks on its forces stationed in the country.
Foreign Minister of Iraq Fuad Hussein, in a telephonic conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday, stressed the need to return to the negotiating table over the future of the US-led global military coalition in Iraq.
