MOSCOW: A drone that was likely hitting civilian infrastructure crashed near Moscow on Tuesday, a police official said, after the ministry of defence reported downing two Ukrainian drones in the southern part of the country.
The incidents are the latest in a spree of suspected drone attacks in recent months in Russia. Moscow has accused Kyiv of the attacks.
Andrei Vorobyov, Moscow regional governor, said that as for the incident with a UAV crash in Kolomna district, the target was likely a civilian infrastructure facility, which was not damaged.
He said that there were no casualties or damage on the ground. The security services and other authorities are investigating.
Authorities have not specified what infrastructure facility may have been targeted, but the Russian energy giant Gazprom operates a facility near the Gubastovo village, where the drone crashed.
Ukraine’s two drones downed
Vorobyov, the Moscow regional governor, spoke shortly after the defence ministry said the Russian military had downed 2 Ukrainian drones in southern Russia.
