KUWAIT CITY: A drone attack caused a fire at Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery, the largest oil refinery in Kuwait, on Friday, marking the second consecutive day the facility has been targeted.

The blaze erupted in multiple units of the refinery, which can process around 730,000 barrels of oil per day.

Firefighters were tackling the blaze in one of the units at Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery on, Kuwait’s state News Agency reported.

Kuwait Petroleum Corporation confirmed the attack, stating: “Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery was targeted by drone attacks early today, causing a fire in several units and prompting the precautionary shutdown of parts of the facility.

No injuries have been reported, and emergency teams are actively working to contain the situation in line with established safety standards.

Firefighters were actively tackling the fire, which followed a previous attack on Thursday that also caused damage. The Kuwait Army said its air defences were “responding to hostile missile and drone threats.”

The strikes come amid a surge in attacks on Gulf energy infrastructure, reportedly in retaliation by Iran for Israeli strikes on its South Pars gas field. Other Gulf nations were also targeted on Friday as Saudi Arabia intercepted dozens of drones, the United Arab Emirates reported missile and drone threats, and Bahrain said shrapnel from “Iranian aggression” caused a fire at a warehouse.

The attacks have triggered a spike in oil and gas prices and raised concerns about potential long-term disruptions to global energy supplies.

Meanwhile, the Arab Parliament has also condemned Iran’s recent attacks on oil and industrial facilities across several Gulf States, calling them a dangerous and unprecedented escalation.

The parliament described the strikes as a highly perilous development that threatens regional security and stability while posing serious risks to global energy supplies.
