KINSHASA: Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) authorities expressed regret after three French diplomats were assaulted in the capital, Kinshasa, on Monday.
The incident occurred at a site used by the French embassy, which has been the subject of a legal dispute.
Police officers and members of the prosecutor’s office were reportedly involved in the raid, with one diplomat held for nearly three hours and assaulted, while two others were shoved but not injured.
Several of the assailants have been arrested. The incident prompted a meeting between France’s ambassador, Bruno Aubert, and President Felix Tshisekedi.
The DRC’s Foreign Minister, Therese Wagner Kayikwamba, expressed deep regret, assuring measures would be taken to prevent future violations of international conventions.
