MOSCOW, Russia: National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Saint Petersburg during the BRICS National Security Advisers’ meeting.

The Russian Embassy in India shared a picture of the two leaders exchanging a handshake.

Doval’s visit to Russia occurred two-and-a-half weeks after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ukraine, where Modi proposed that Ukraine and Russia negotiate to end the ongoing war, with India playing an “active role” in restoring peace.

Doval reportedly carried Modi’s peace plan for President Putin during his visit.

Putin expressed hopes that PM Modi would attend the annual BRICS summit in Kazan next month. He also proposed a bilateral meeting with Modi on October 22 to discuss the outcomes of their joint work and future prospects following Modi’s visit to Moscow. The Russian leader referred to Modi as a “good friend” and sent his regards.
