NEW DELHI: Chennai Super Kings Coach Stephen Fleming has said that captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been hampered by a knee wounded during the Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign.
He, however, said that the captain was still delivering vital runs for his cricket team.
EX-India captain Dhoni, who has led Chennai to four Indian Premier League titles, has scored 58 runs in three innings at the strike rate of 215, the sixth-highest among batters that season.
The Dhoni, who quit ICC international cricket in 2020, struggled while running between the wickets in Wednesday’s match against Indian Premier League team Rajasthan Royals, which Chennai lost by three runs.
Dhoni is nursing the knee injury
Fleming said that “He is nursing the knee injury that you can see in some of his movement, which hindering him somewhat but still what you saw today is the great player for us,”
“His fitness has always been very professional. He comes the month before the tournament starts, so he does not get the opportunity to do a lot.”
Fleming said Dhoni did net practice in his hometown in Ranchi before joining the Indian Premier League team in Chennai that season. The former captain was seen wearing support for his knee during pre-season.
“I think you can still see he is playing well,” he said. “We’ve never a doubt about how he manages himself and how well he gets himself up to speed.”
