CAIRO: Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, on Sunday said that the systematic Israeli assaults and violations in Al-Quds Ash-Sharif urge for strengthening the existing OIC-LAS cooperation to offer political support for the Holy City in international forums.
The OIC Secretary-General addressed the high-level conference in support of the Holy City of Al-Quds Ash-Sharif. The conference was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (LAS) in Cairo on Sunday and attended by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, King Abdullah II of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine, and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the LAS Secretary-General.
OIC Secretary-General terms Israeli measures extremely dangerous
The OIC Secretary-General, in his statement, reiterated that the continued Israeli occupation measures that target Christian and Islamic holy sites in the occupied city of Al-Quds are very dangerous, noting the responsibility of the world community to preserve the historical and legal status of Al-Quds, especially the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Secretary-General said that the steadfastness and determination of the Maqdisites and their hard work to enable their institutions to continue providing basic services to its stationed people shows their faith in their cause and their resolve to defend this city, its identity, sanctities, and history.
The Secretary-General considered the violations committed by Israeli forces as an attack on the inalienable religious rights and heritage of the Islamic Ummah, a provocation to the feelings of Muslims across the world, a violation of freedom of worship and the sanctity of holy sites, and a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions and the international law, once again warning that their continuation threatens peace and stability in the region and the world at large.
