PESHAWAR: Over the past five days, the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been gripped by relentless rains, resulting in tragic accidents that have claimed the lives of 35 individuals and left 43 others injured, according to reports from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The havoc caused by the rains has led to significant damage to residential properties, with 346 houses partially damaged and 46 houses completely destroyed, as highlighted in the PDMA report.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has issued directives for the immediate distribution of relief materials to the affected families. Relief checks are being promptly provided to the heirs of the deceased and the injured, under the Chief Minister’s instructions.
Special emphasis has been placed on swift action to provide relief to those impacted by the rains and landslides, with food and relief items being distributed in various affected areas, including Charsadda, Dirlower, Derapar, Malakand, Mohmand, Bannu, Khyber, Bajaur, Nowshera, and Peshawar.
The relief items being distributed include blankets, tents, jerry cans, gas cylinders, water coolers, mattresses, kitchen sets, hygiene kits, toilet kits, plastic mats, sandbags, and tarpaulins, among others, as outlined by the PDMA.
Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, Chief Minister Gandapur has emphasized the immediate reopening of closed roads to facilitate the movement of rescue and relief teams. He reassured the affected populace that they will not be left to face these challenges alone and underscored the government’s commitment to providing support during these difficult times.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Gandapur has directed all concerned agencies, including the PDMA, district administrations, and Rescue 1122, to remain on full alert and utilize all available resources to ensure the timely delivery of relief efforts to those in need.
In the face of this natural disaster, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands resolute in its determination to alleviate the suffering of its citizens and restore normalcy to the affected regions.
