RAWALPINDI: Dengue cases have surged, with 130 new infections reported in Rawalpindi over the last 24 hours, health officials said. According to data from the health authority released on Friday, a total of 1,740 dengue fever cases have been confirmed since January 2024. Hospital bed occupancy has also risen to 281, following the admission of 56 new patients in just one day.
In response to the escalating situation, health authorities have ramped up surveillance, detection, and awareness initiatives. Various local administrations are collaborating on multiple activities to address this pressing issue.

Several private schools are also stepping up to raise awareness among students through classroom lectures. On Friday, students engaged with shopkeepers and street vendors to share important information about dengue fever, its causes, and prevention tips.
Yasir Rahman, Principal of AIMHS, led a student and teacher awareness walk in the area, visiting homes to spread the message. “We are doing our part by organizing both indoor and outdoor activities to combat the dengue issue,” he stated, noting a positive response from the community.
Amjad Zeb, Founding Director of Anam School, shared that they regularly hold lectures on dengue and conduct weekly awareness walks in nearby areas to further educate residents.
