Tel Aviv: Thousands of Israelis on Saturday staged protest rallies in Tel Aviv and other cities against the controversial judicial reforms of the extremist government.

According to AFP, the people in Israel have been protesting against the judicial reforms proposed by the Benjamin Netanyahu-led government, which according to them, is a threat to democracy.

This is the biggest movement in the history of Israel.

The protest demonstrations were held in many cities, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, where the people chanted slogans against Netanyahu’s government.

“Democracy, democracy,” protesters chanted as they protested on Saturday. “We won’t give up until it gets better.” Demonstrators are holding weekly protests across Israel to put pressure on the government to roll back its decision.

Last month, the Israeli parliament limited the so-called judicial reforms in a vote.

The new legislation bars the top court of Israel from carrying out a judicial review of some of the decisions of the government.  Analysts believe that the move would lead to a more authoritarian government in Israel.

Netanyahu’s coalition government, which includes far-right and ultra-Orthodox Jewish parties, says the reforms balance ties between elected officials and the judiciary.
