Defence Minister Says Pakistan Wants to Expand Trade in Afghanistan

NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif has said that Pakistan remains committed to expanding trade, commerce and investment in Afghanistan.

The Minister was addressing the third meeting of the Quadripartite Group on Afghanistan in New York, Radio Pakistan reported.  China, Pakistan, Iran and Russia are the member of Quadripartite Group on Afghanistan.

Khawaja Asif said that they must continue to support the provision of humanitarian help to the 23.7 million destitute people in Afghanistan.

He hoped that the UN Secretary-General’s appeal for over three billion dollars in humanitarian help will be fully funded, particularly by the Western donor nations. The Minister said the early release of Afghanistan’s frozen national resources, the revival of the banking system and connectivity projects is necessary.

He said at the same time, they should continue to work jointly to promote peace and security within Afghanistan as well as to neutralize the threats to the regional nations emanating from Afghanistan.
