Death Anniversary Shabnam Romani Being Observed Today

ISLAMABAD: The fifteenth death anniversary of renowned Urdu poet, columnist, and writer Shabnam Romani is being observed on Saturday.

The original name of Shabnam Romani was Mirza Azim Baig Chughtai, who was born on December 30, 1928, in Shah Jahanpur. He along with his family migrated to Karachi after independence. Within Karachi’s literary circles, Shabnam Romani was known for his poetic expression and literary contributions.

His works, including ‘Jazeera’, ‘Musnavi Sair Karachi’, ‘Harf-e Nisbet’, ‘Tohmat’, and ‘Dosra Himala’, garnered widespread acclaim. He also wrote a literary column in the daily newspaper ‘Mashriq’ under the title ‘Hyde Park’ for a long time of period. A collection of these columns was also published later under the same name.

In 1989, he founded the esteemed literary journal ‘Aqdaar’, which was well received among literary enthusiasts. Shabnam Romani breathed his last on February 17, 2009, in Karachi, where he was laid to rest in the Azizabad Cemetery. –APP
