Death Anniversary of Renowned Urdu Poet Ahmed Faraz Observed

ISLAMABAD: Famous and progressive Urdu poet Ahmed Faraz’s 15th death anniversary was observed on Friday.

He took the pen name Faraz. His real name was Syed Ahmed Shah. He born on January 12, 1931 in Kohat. He relocated with his family to Peshawar and attended Peshawar University to earn a master’s degree in Urdu and Persian.

He began his professional writing career with Radio Pakistan Peshawar as a scriptwriter before joining Peshawar University as a lecturer. His literary works include “Tanha Tanha,” “Janan Janan,” “Be-awaz Gali Kuchon main,” “Sab Awazain Meri,” and “Shab-e-Khoon.” He was part of The Progressive Writers Movement as a member.

The famous Urdu poet was honored with numerous national and international honors, including the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Nigar Award, and Sitara-e-Imtiaz. Due to kidney disease, Ahmed Faraz passed away on August 24, 2008, and was buried in Islamabad.
