LAHORE: The third death anniversary of renowned Pakistan film actress Neelo Begum observed on Tuesday.
Neelo was born in Bhera, British India in 1940 as Cynthia Alexander Fernandes.
She started her professional career in 1956 and got popularity from the song ”Aaye Mosam Rangeeley Sohaney” from the super hit film ‘Saat Laakh’.
She was given Nigar Award for her outstanding performance in the super hit film ‘Zarqa’.
Born into a Catholic family, she adopted a Muslim name, Abida Riaz after marrying renowned film director and producer Riaz Shahid in 1965. Film actor Shaan Shahid is her son.
Known as queen of romance, Neelo begum appeared in more than 134 films including both Urdu and Punjabi languages.
The government of Pakistan awarded her Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2022 in recognition of her services to the entertainment industry.
Neelu Begum passed away in Lahore on January 30, 2021 at the age of 80.
