KHARTOUM: A deal between Sudan’s military and civilian leaders signed on Monday aimed at resolving deep crisis that has gripped the African country for a long time. Sudan’s Army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan took power in October, 2021, derailing a transition to civilian rule that had started following the 2019 ouster of autocrat ruler Omar al-Bashir in the country.
Economic crisis
Media reports said that as many as 121 people were killed and many wounded during protests in the last few years in the African country.
Reports said that the country has also been suffering from violence. It said that Sudan is also confronted with an economic crisis due to violence and protests in the country.
Divisions among civilians have deepened since the military coup as some groups urging an agreement with the military while others insist on no talks.
Monday’s deal was inked by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, multiple civilian groups, and Burhan, paramilitary commander. – APP
