Deal on Iran Freeing 5 US Citizens on Track, says Washington

WASHINGTON:  US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan acknowledged on Tuesday that his country believes a deal on Iran finally freeing five detained US nationals on track, but he did not provide more details over the matter.

Earlier this month, Tehran and Washington reached an agreement on the release of US prisoners in Iran while releasing $6 billion in Iranian assets frozen in South Korea.

Later Iranian frozen assets were transferred to a Swiss bank for exchange and transfer to Iran.

Jake Sullivan answering a question said things are moving forward according to the understanding that reached with Iran.

the US official said he did not have an exact timetable for the release as there are many steps in this regard adding that the deal is very much on track.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani has said that release of American prisoners will take up to two months.

Iran has already released four detained US citizens and moved them to house arrest from Tehran’s Evin prison. A fifth prisoner is already under house arrest.
